We have an exciting new website.

The website is to help people with learning disabilities make choices about their lives.

We would like you to help us.

We would like you to try the website.

Trying the website now will help you to think about your life.

Trying the website now will help other people to think about their life in the future.

Hopefully, you will think it is fun and helpful.

Hopefully, you will want to tell us what you thought of the website.

Thank you for helping us with our first trials

Welcome to Where I Want to Live.

Thank you for looking at our website.

My name is Louise

I work with Where I Want to Live.

Maybe someone is helping you with this website.

Having some help is a good idea.

Having some help means you can talk about your choices.

First, I will tell you about Where I Want to Live.

Then I will tell you how you can help us.

Where I Want to Live

Where I want to live is a charity.

Where I Want to Live wants to help people with Learning Disabilities.

Thinking about your life is important.

Now and in the future.

Thinking about where you want to live is important.

Now and in the future.

Thinking about your life can be tricky.

Thinking about your future can be tricky.

Thinking about where you want to live can be tricky.

Thinking about where you want to live can be tricky if

  • You do not know about the choices
  • You do not want a change
  • You are happy now
  • You have communication difficulties

Where I Want to Live wants to help you think about the future.

Where I Want to Live wants to help you talk about the future.

Where I Want to Live wants to help you talk about what you like.

Where I Want to Live wants to help you talk about what you want.

Thinking about where you want to live is important.

But it can be fun too.

Where I Want to Live have made a website to help you.

The website will be a game with questions.

We call it a toolkit.

How you can help

It is a new website.

It is a new toolkit.

Where I Want to Live would like you to try the toolkit.

Having some help with the toolkit is a good idea.

Having some help means you can talk about your choices.

You can try it a few times.

You can try it with different people helping you.

When you try the toolkit you might change your mind.

It is okay to change your mind.

First there will be some questions about you now.

You will probably need some help with this.

We will keep information about you safe.

Next there will be some questions about the things that you like.

There will be some questions about what you don’t like.

This will help you think about the future.

The questions will help you talk about the things you like.

The questions will help you talk about the things you don’t like.

It is important to talk to other people about any changes you would like.

  • Have a look.
  • Have a try.
  • Say if the website is good.
  • Say if the website needs some changes.

Well done and thank you for helping.

Trying the toolkit will help lots of other people with learning disabilities in the future.

Hello, my name is Louise Keevil.  I am a founding trustee and acting CEO of the new Charity, called Where I Want to Live.

You will by now know that the person you are supporting would like to get involved in trialling a toolkit that we are creating. Thank you for providing the support so we can trial and get feedback about the toolkit. You may have had a look at our website so are familiar with our vision. We are passionate about our long-term aim of social change so that people with learning disabilities have real choice about where and how they live their adult lives.

Our initial steps towards this vision will be to provide an online toolkit that will enable users to self-discover their ambitions with regards to where and how they live, and provide easy to use signposting, advice and suggestions about available options.

Firstly though we are keen to prove that it is possible and hugely helpful to create the online toolkit and that it can be accessible and engaging for a wide range of people with learning disabilities.

We are not suggesting that people should move on from their current arrangement. It might be that they and those that provide care and support are very happy with how things are. We are about choice, and this includes regular engagement and review. This regular review is very important as a time might come when a ‘plan b’ is required.

We appreciate that thoughts and conversations about the future can be very difficult and potentially stressful. We are making every effort to design this toolkit to support these difficult thoughts and conversations, which includes providing social stories to help give context. We have, however, made the assumption that the people supporting the process have a good knowledge and understanding of the person they are supporting and therefore is able to ’set the scene’ and is sensitive to the individual’s needs. If this is not the case please revert to whoever has asked you to fulfil this role

Whilst we are expecting to be hugely helpful, we are aware that this experience could in some circumstances be stressful. If you see any sign of distress, please stop the process. It is our absolute priority to ensure everyone feels comfortable and safe.

The operational aspects of the toolkit are self-explanatory, however, we do offer supporting guidance throughout regarding approaches and ideas for conversation and support. We would appreciate it if you could use and review these for us as part of the trial. We will provide a questionnaire for you at the end.

You should get a sense that we are very keen for the person you are supporting to feel ownership of the experience. We have designed the toolkit with this as a key priority.

We will be collecting data. Please be assured our policies around keeping data safe are robust.

Thank you in advance for providing the support to enable this trial and for giving us feedback about your experience.
